the world’s largest asteroid has gone ‘close to the ears’!

On Friday, September 1, Florence, the largest asteroid ever found, passed very close to Earth. The world witnessed this cosmic event at around 5.35 pm Indian time. Scientists got a chance to see Florence from a distance of only 6 million kilometers.

According to NASA, Florence can only be seen with the help of a small telescope until the first week of September. Pisces Austrinus, Capricornus, Aquarius, and Delphinus can be seen moving away from the front of the constellation. After 1890, Florence passed so close to Earth. After that, we have to wait till 2500, said NASA.

The asteroid was discovered in March 1971 by Bobby Bus in Shelter from the Siding Spring Observatory in Australia. Florence is known to be a very good target for ground base radar surveillance. Paul Shodas, manager of NASA’s Center for Near-Earth Objects Studies, said: “Since the launch of the NASA program, Florence has been the largest asteroid to be tracked. Also, various asteroids move away from Earth at different times, but most of them are quite small in size. ’
