Rohit is in the top ten in Test rankings
Rohit Sharma won the batting award in the Ahmedabad Test which ended in two days. The Indian opener has risen to the eighth position in his career in the ICC Test batsmen’s rankings. Off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has taken the top three spot in great bowling.
The ICC released the rankings on Sunday after the third Test of the India-England series, which ended last Thursday. Rohit top-scored for India with six runs in the first innings of the day-night Test in Ahmedabad.
He was unbeaten on 25 in the second innings to win the match by 10 wickets. He has advanced 6 steps in the ranking. 842 rating points is also the best of this batsman. His previous best in 2019 was 622 rating points and 10th place.

There has been no change in the top seven places in the batsmen’s rankings. Ken Williamson at the top as before. Cheteshwar Pujara is now in the tenth place after going down two steps. Ben Stokes dropped from 10th to 11th. Jack Crowley, who scored 53 in England’s first innings, is 15 steps ahead, in 47th place.
Ashwin has made a big improvement in the bowlers’ rankings. The Indian took 6 wickets in the Ahmedabad Test and touched the milestone of 400 wickets. He is now three steps ahead of the list. In the top two, Pat Cummins of Australia and Neil Wagner of New Zealand remain the same.
James Anderson is three steps behind at number six. Stuart Broad, who dropped to No. 6 at the end of the second Test, is now seven steps behind. India’s Jaspreet Bumrah has dropped to ninth place. Kagiso Rabada of South Africa came up in the top eight.
Left-arm spinner Akshar Patel, who took 11 wickets in the match, gave a long jump. 30 steps ahead, he is now in 36th place. Jack Leach is now 28th, up 3 steps. Joe Root, who took 5 wickets in the first innings with the ball, is 16 steps ahead.
There is no change in the top positions of all-rounders. Jason Holder at the top and Rabindra Jadeja at the top. Stokes, Shakib Al Hasan, and Ashwin in the next three places.
The ICC has made a change in the ranking. The ranking update will be published weekly from next March. The ranking will be given to women every Tuesday and to men on Wednesday.
